Fusion Card Challenge #13

Welcome to today’s Fusion Card Challenge!  Thank you so much for participating with us last week.  We have a bit of a different schedule for our challenge today.  Challenge #13 will be a month-long challenge, so you’ll have a whole month to create – you could do one project for the sketch, one for the photo, and one with Fusion.  Enter as many times as you like!  Hopefully you’ll enjoy our laid-back schedule for the month of July.

One other change is that this will be Deanna’s last challenge as a Fusion DT member.  I have really enjoyed being on this team with her, and I’m sad to see her go.  But she plans to be around, so make sure you continue to stop in at her blog!  Best wishes, Deanna!

Here is this month’s challenge graphic:

Cute, right??  I went with the following elements in creating my card:  Stacked birds, color combo, and white space.  My mind went in the direction of a little baby being welcomed into the ‘nest.’  Thus, the Welcome Little One theme, in spite of the nontraditional-baby-color combo.

BABY-003-01

This card makes use of the Papertrey Ink Birds & Blooms stamp set, which I had not previously used until this time.  The background embossing is simply because my new Horizontal Chevron Cover Plate arrived last week, and I wanted to try it.

On a personal note, we went swimming at the local public pool last Saturday to celebrate the arrival of Summer.  It was fun, but despite my best sunscreen-applying efforts, I came home with a terrible burn over my shoulders and upper arms.  It has been a painful week, as a result.  In addition to the ‘normal’ pain of my life.  Ack!!

I’ve also had a HUGE amount of documentation and preparation to do lately for our homeschooling, in addition to some custom Etsy orders to fulfill.  Sick kids this week, too.  All of that has left my personal creative time almost completely in the dust.  Summer is always so overwhelming to me, and I often find myself hanging on for dear life until Autumn arrives.  Just not a Summer person!  I definitely don’t do very well with all the hustle and bustle and busy schedules.  I much prefer to clip along at a nice, steady, reasonable pace.

But did you spot my favorite lace at the bottom of this card??!  I am thrilled to report that with an apparent first-of-the-month re-stocking at nearby Wal-Mart stores, I was able to find about 12 rolls of it this month!  Call me crazy for stockpiling it as if the world were about to end…  But my mind is a little more at ease for the time being, so it’s TOTALLY worth it, to me!

Anyway.  Thanks for stopping by today. 😉

Fusion Card Challenge #12

Welcome to today’s Fusion Card Challenge!  I thought you all did a great job with those ties from last week’s inspiration photo – so many creative ways to interpret it!

Here is our challenge for you today:

Another interesting one, for me!

I consider myself to be soooo very UN-trendy and NOT too hip!  I think I’m pretty old fashioned, actually.  So this modern, hip, trendy photo freaked me out a bit.   As I studied it, though, I decided to go with a vase (or a jar, in my case) of flowers sitting on a table/shelf of some sort (or a piece of woodgrain-embossed kraft cardstock, in my case) and the color palette, all of which resulted in this card:

TY-008-01

I don’t think I realized what a GORGEOUS color Island Indigo is – for heck’s sake!!  And thank goodness I had purchased the In Colors pattern pack a few months ago, because I knew when I saw this striped DP that it would be THE perfect background for me.  And the two of us have been living happily ever after since. 😉  (hee hee)

I was also happy to ink up another of my Flourishes stamps for the image.  The sentiment is from Verve’s Words Cannot Express stamp set.  LOVE that font!

Fusion Card Challenge #11

Welcome to today’s Fusion Card Challenge!  I absolutely LOVED what you all did with last week’s challenge, WOW!!  Amazing stuff, I’m telling you.  Keep up the good work. 😉

Here is the challenge today:

I’m afraid this photo was a bit overwhelming for me.  I stumped myself every time I looked at it, wondering what to create.  So rather than taking it as a whole, I tried to find one tie that spoke to me individually.  The lucky winner was the tie immediately to the left of the bright green tie.  I saw a black background with stripes and little glowing dots of color at the intersecting lines.  (That ‘glowing’ could just be my rusty vision, though – LOL!)  At any rate, here is the result of my inspiration:

BDAY-018-01a

The card base is True Black, as is the focal panel which also has a white mat layer behind it to blend with the white stripes.  The stripes and words were stamped in Versamark then embossed with white powder, using a line image from PTI’s Birthday Style set and a Think Big sentiment.  Last, a variety of colored rhinestones in somewhat of a pattern.

Pretty simple over here these days!

Fusion Card Challenge #10

We have had the week off from lessons, and I had great plans to create a bunch of cards.  But I found myself being distracted over and over again by home organizing projects instead. So, once again, it’s been terribly silent all week here at the blog.

I do have something for this week’s Fusion Card Challenge, though.  Here are the challenge elements:

10

Upon first seeing this inspiration photo, I immediately thought of Love Lives Here.  My thoughts were along the lines of ‘happy home’ for a newly engaged or wedded couple.  So, this is where my creativity led me:

WED-002-01

I created a row of homes, with one ‘happy home’ standing out from the others by stamping it in light blue similar to the photo’s color and then giving it a little pop with a red heart.  The 3 white homes were embossed with the Wood Grain impression plate, and all of the homes were adhered with foam adhesive.

The card base is Classic Kraft, and the Rustic White mat layer was embossed with the Linen/Canvas impression plate and then stitched and distressed around the perimeter after I added a strip of Soft Stone cardstock to it.  I zig-zag stitched across the edges of the Soft Stone cardstock for some slight contrast.  The sentiments – from PTI’s Happily Ever After stamp set – were stamped using CTMH Slate ink.  The rhinestones are because I thought a wedding/engagement card should have a bit of happy bling on it.

Fusion Card Challenge #9

Welcome to today’s Fusion Card Challenge!  I am always delighted by what you all create for these challenges.  Always lots of inspiration in the Fusion Gallery!

Here is the challenge we have for you today:

When I first saw this photo, I liked the idea of the pop of red over the aqua background, and the sentiment.  So here is what my inspiration led me to create:

ENC-005-01

I used the thick watercolor paper for this card – the base, the mat layer, and the focal panel – so that I could use my watercolor pencils for the aqua background and still have it all coordinate.  I think this Tulips Border embossing folder makes for a really pretty, clean-and-simple card, so I broke it out again!

I used my new Chloe Stem die to cut the flower from red glittered cardstock.  The lovely, encouraging sentiment comes from Verve’s Brighter Days stamp set.

ENC-005-4in1

As you can see, my crafting schedule still dictates simplicity.

Fusion Card Challenge #8

Welcome to a new Fusion Card Challenge!

Obviously, from the lack of creative posting here, life has been keeping me busy.  This is the time of year when I do most of my research into what we will need for the next year of homeschooling lessons.  It does take quite a large chunk out of my schedule, and since we are still forging ahead with lessons (even though the school year is ending for most others), that chunk of time comes from my spare time – which doesn’t leave much crafting time for me.  I’ve also had a bunch of graduation cards to make for friends and family.

So I’m grateful when it’s time to create something for the Fusion Challenge – then I can just say to everyone, “I’m sorry, you’ll have to excuse me – I absolutely HAVE to create something,”  because I’m ‘obligated’ to do it, right???  At least I’m getting a TEENY TINY BIT of crafting in here and there, thank goodness!

Here is our challenge for you today:

Isn’t that photo a beauty??!  Wow.

Here is what I created:

WELL-002-01

I envisioned a pretty, soft bouquet of flowers in a lovely aqua vase.  And when my new stamps from Flourishes arrived last week, I immediately opened up the Calla Lilies set and went to work coloring with my Copic markers.

I stamped the image using Classic Kraft ink to give the bouquet a softer look, to reflect the water-colored effect in the photo.  I cut a vase using a Mega Gracious Vases die, and then I colored it a bit with my markers and spritzed it with some shimmer mist.  That adorable little sentiment is from Verve’s Treasured Words stamp set.  Wasn’t feeling up to adding rhinestones or other embellishments, thinking that this bouquet should speak for itself, if possible.

Fusion Card Challenge #7

Welcome to today’s Fusion Card Challenge!

Here is what we have for you today:

That little Kraft package is just so adorable!  But I struggled with this one, too.  And when I came within 10 minutes of finishing my final card, I ended up stamping the sentiment crooked.  😦  Boo, hiss!  Then I had to turn the panel over and try it all again.  That is difficult to do when it is 10:30 p.m. and you’re tired and wanting to sleep.

Here is my creation, anyway:

ToY-002-01

I used a few neglected supplies for this card.  I’ve had my MFT Layered Rose die set for a while, still unused, until this project.  I thought they would create perfect coffee-filter flowers, based on those in the photo.  After assembling them, I also sprayed a little Frost shimmer spritz on them.

Also being used for the first time is my Memory Box Meadow Rue die, snipping off a few flower buds, though.  I used a new sentiment from my Winter Hills stamp set, and then added three little pearls.

ToY-002-4in1

I had a neighbor stop by on Saturday, asking for 2 last-minute Mother’s Day cards.  She saw this card and asked me to re-create it with a Mother’s Day sentiment for her.  She said she loved the design, which made me feel better, since I have really been doubting this creation ever since finishing it, for some reason.
