Mojo Monday 300

We had a fun day yesterday.  It ended up being just a few people from my extended family at the gathering, which made for a rather quiet, relaxing picnic.  We’re off today for a hot-air-balloon festival (bright and early again!), and then Monsters University in the theater.  We’re not often lucky enough to talk Hubby into taking time off from work, so this is a real treat for us to have a 4-day weekend with him!  I just hope we can make up a little bit for the consecutive early-morning wake-up times over the weekend…

I had a fun time ‘guesting’ for Clearly Besotted Stamps, and I appreciate all the comments left here on my blog – ya’ll are so sweet!  Thank you so much. 😉

I wanted to enter the Mojo Monday #300 celebration, so I sneaked in a few minutes Wednesday between making cupcakes and fruit salad for our Holiday picnic and doing the laundry and such in order to create something.

The Mojo Monday sketches usually make me think in terms of multiple layers, which I’m not always great at doing.  So I came into this sketch with the specific intent of making it my own, in my own little style.  So I went white and simple with a pop of color, and this card is the result:

TY-009-01

I used my new AnnaBelle Stamps border die in place of the background panel, and I kept it to one element (big ol’ Copic-colored butterfly) in place of the circle group of elements on the right side.  The butterfly is from my stash, and this is the first time I’ve used the border die, so YAY for using neglected supplies!

Can you still see the sketch in this simple interpretation of it??

Hopefully it’s not too far off base.  Whatever it is, though, it feels like it’s definitely my style.

Thanks for stopping by today. 😉  Happy Weekend, everyone!!

Mother’s Day Mojo Monday

I felt drawn to the Mojo Monday #279 sketch this week, and I was feeling exceptionally patient today, so I took it on and created this card:

MTHR-002-01

The papers are from a MME paper pad I bought recently, stamped here and there with some words and flourishes.  The aqua background layer was stamped with an ornate Grateful Elegance stamp.  I’ve also used my favorite lace and one of my little hand-crocheted flowers.

I thought the glitter frame would be fun, but I didn’t realize that the white vintage-leaf glitter I used would come across as a rainbow color in the photos.  The above photo makes it look more clear, but the rest of the photos make the glitter look quite out of place in all this aqua and cream.  Thank goodness it doesn’t look this dorky in real life!

MTHR-002-4in1

Anyway.  It started out as a ‘thinking of you’ card, but quickly morphed into a frilly Mother’s Day card that I’ll send to my foster mom in a few months.

Thanks for stopping by today. 😉

Mojo Monday and Paper Players

I am playing along with the Mojo Monday #261 sketch and The Paper Players #115 Tic-Tac-Toe challenge.  For the latter, I chose to work with the top row of elements on the board:  Christmas, Sparkle/Bling, and Ribbon.

So here is my somewhat-rustic Christmas card:

I used a few new stamps here.  The wreath is from O Christmas Tree by Verve, and the sentiment is from Holiday Wishes by PTI.  I used some Copics to color in the wreath image a bit, and then decked it out in some rhinestones bling.  I also added some machine stitching to the banner and the background panel.  The music DP is from a new Pink Paislee paper pack I picked up recently, and the ribbon is PTI’s Ripe Avocado.

After I finished the card, I wondered if the background was too busy, or if I should have cut the center from the wreath.  But I won’t stew about it for very long.  I wish I could find time to create in the morning, when my brain is fresh… er….

I am trying to get into the Christmas spirit, and to find some card ideas for easily-mass-produced cards, since I send out a LOT of cards during the Holidays – for our family Christmas card and also as little gifts.  I am hoping to finalize some things next week when we are on break from lessons.  This one, though, will not make the cut for the ‘easily-mass-produced’ requirement.  It took me more than an hour, and I don’t see myself making 60+ of these.

Anyway.  As I’ve seen on so many blogs, everyone else seems to be miles ahead of me, so wish me luck as I gear up for the Holiday card making fest!

Mojo 258 and ColourQ 154

Here is a little something for the Mojo Monday #258 sketch (which I turned to the left instead), also using the ColourQ #154 color combo:

I wanted to open some of my new supplies from the Anni-Verve-sary release – so many fun new stamps and dies!  Today’s card features a sentiment from the Treasured Words stamp set and blooms from the Lean on Me stamp set.  Also using some new Bravo Burgundy and So Saffron cardstocks and a stripes embossing folder from Darice.

Mojo Throwdown

A card for Mojo Monday #257 and Color Throwdown #208.

I’ve come to the conclusion that I just don’t layer on cards very well.  Either that, or I just don’t enjoy layering on cards.  This card took me FOR.EV.ER to complete.  And at the end of it, it makes me think a bottle of Pepto Bismol threw up on it.  Which is funny, because Pepto is supposed to prevent throwing up, isn’t it?

Anyway.

It also took me a while to create it simply because my brain has been pulled in so many directions this week.  Our van seems to be on the verge of breaking down, we had to replace a broken kitchen faucet on the spur of the moment at 10:30pm Wednesday night, and working back into lessons with the children is always a bit of a struggle for the first few days.  Among other issues.

Meh.  Life goes on, right?!  And we are making delicious mint brownies today as part of PrincessA’s math lesson, so things are already on the mend!

See you tomorrow morning for a Dynamic Duos card!

Thanks for stopping by today. 😉

AnniVERVEsary Day 1 Challenge

I went to the dentist this morning to have some work done (BAH!!) and to try to ‘detox’ and recuperate from that, I made a card for the Day 1 Challenge from Verve’s SCS forum, for the AnniVERVEsary celebrations this month.  The challenge is to use the colors green, pink, and brown.

Here is what I managed to create with a numb face and a ‘Novocaine headache’:

Used some of my Wal-mart DP’s (Colorbok brand) for this one.  And I told you it would be difficult for me to put this stamp down!  I just love it, love it, love it!  I apologize, in advance, for how bored of it you will be in the future. 😉

I also used this week’s Mojo Monday sketch (#254).  I am amazed at how much easier it is to use a sketch challenge when I don’t try to overthink it!

(Maybe that’s just thanks to the Novocaine, though… haha.)

Entries aren’t due until August 24th (in case you were thinking of playing along!), but I’m trying to stay on top of things this week since I won’t be available much next week.  (frowny face)

Thanks for stopping by today. 😉

Mojo Monday 253

Wow.  I am really eager for Autumn to arrive.  It seems like our Summer has been run, run, run lately, and I am in desperate need of a slow down and some routine to my days!

I’m here today with an attempt at Mojo Monday #253, with some random colors (no challenge associated).  I saw a cute little girl’s dress on Sunday that had white daisies with pink centers and a black background – I thought it would be cute to use on a card.

This flower is soooo much brighter than I wanted it to be, almost overbearing to me.  But it didn’t look that bright while I was coloring it with my Copic markers.  The ribbon is some seam binding that I hand dyed and scrunched last year.

I think it might work for a teenager’s birthday, or for a little girl who loves all things pink.

Thanks for stopping by today. 😉
