Play Date Cafe Roses

Here is a little something for the Play Date Cafe #158 challenge:

I used the Sweet Life stamp for the roses, but I didn’t go through all the stamping steps because I wanted them to have a bold, bright, modern feel.  So I stamped just one step onto Regal Rose cardstock using the same ink for a tone-on-tone effect.  The leaves were done the same way using Wild Wasabi.

The mat layer and text are both Basic Gray, and the sentiment is from PTI’s Heart Prints stamp set.  I scattered a few rhinestones for a little bling.

And on a personal note…

We’ve had a pretty good week with lessons, but I am happy to have a few weekend days to chill. 😉  I was finally able to add in the twins’ math lessons, and they love it!  Thank goodness.  PrincessA has taken to putting her arms around me or resting her head on my shoulder while we sit on the sofa and I read aloud to her, and that makes my heart feel good.  Little Man is on the verge of really taking off with his reading, and I love watching this stage when all the light bulbs start going on in their minds and things start to connect.

And my little PrincessM, who has struggled with pronouncing her ‘r’ sounds ever since beginning to talk, just up and blurted out the most perfect little ‘r’ sound out of nowhere this week, and it was like music to my ears!  Thank the Lord!  I have been waiting and waiting, trying to be patient and not worry too much about speech problems and such.  And when that sound came out of her mouth, it was as though heaven itself opened up and angels began singing the hallelujah chorus, I’m telling you!!  Such a sweet, sweet little life moment.

In other good news, we were finally able to figure out what the stench was coming from the children’s bathroom.  We think a little person (ahem) stuffed a bit of food down the little emergency drain hole at the top of the sink – who knows how long ago, based on the stench!  And after the toilet tank in the other bathroom sprung a small leak and then finally cracked, we were able to fix it fairly quickly, so things are looking up, I suppose. 😉

We have the twins’ birthday up this week, so we will be bowling, making cake, and opening presents the day before Thanksgiving.  I can’t believe my twin babies are 6 years old!!  Then we have dinner with my family on Thanksgiving day, dinner with Hubby’s family the next day, and then Saturday to ourselves to put up our Christmas tree and decorations.  Since we all have been a little bit sick this past week (and a little bit sleep deprived for me as a result), I am really hoping that we can escape the family parties next week without having to become sick again.

I hope you all are having a good weekend.  Thanks so much for stopping by today. 😉

Play Date Cafe Circles and Butterflies

The answer is, yes.  I am still avoiding my Christmas projects.

Sigh.

But here is a card for the Play Date Cafe #157 challenge!

I thought I would do something flowery and beautiful in response to the absolutely gorgeous inspiration photo story.  But I’ve been doing flowers so much lately, I went with circles and butterflies instead.

From left to right, the colors are Elegant Eggplant, Scarlet Jewel, Rich Razzleberry.  I meant to tie a little bit of twine across the card below the sentiment.  But I glued down the Kraft panel before my brain even had a chance to respond.  Although, I did remember to run the panel through my Big Shot with the Linen Impression Plate first.  Because I can be totally random, like that.

I kept getting the circle proportions wrong, so I have three leftover sets of circles like these, in three different sizes.  I’m sure my oversized pile of misfit scraps will welcome them with open arms!

Is it weird that from that fabulously beautiful inspiration photo, my inspiration was the little color reference dots at the bottom?  Hmmm.

Thanks for stopping by today. 😉

CAS(E) This Sketch with Play Date Cafe

I absolutely LOVE the fall-back time change from Daylight Savings.  Most of the last few changes have involved trying to get 3 young children to stay in bed long enough for Mommy to have some extra sleep.  This change went amazingly well – all 3 children stayed in bed (and actually slept, I think) until 6:40, which would have been 7:40 on the usual schedule.  It was nice to have that extra hour of sleep! 😉

I used a small bit of time before church yesterday to create something for the Play Date Cafe #156 colors, also using CAS(E) This Sketch #4.  Once again, I went with just a touch of the colors with a mostly white card.

I’m going to TRY not to bore you all to tears by using this stitched mat rectangle every day.  But it is such a fun one!  I couldn’t resist using it again.

I used my favorite Simple Sunflower products in PTI colors, except the leaves are in SU! Always Artichoke.  The sentiment is from Verve’s Bloom & Grow stamp set.

Monday is here again.  I am really wishing time would slow down a bit.

Thanks for stopping by today.  😉  Hope you have a great week!

An iSpy Sketched Play Date Cafe Card

ACK!!!!  Oh, thank goodness I had a little crafty time today!!  I’ve really needed it the last few days, and especially today.  But enough about that. 😉

I had an idea pop into my head for the beautiful Play Date Cafe #154 colors for their 3rd Anniversary festivities (Happy Anniversary, Play Date Cafe – thanks for all the fun!).  So I grabbed my Copic markers and a stamped butterfly image and then went to work.  I used the iSpy Sketch #38 to help me bring the card together (since my brain is on extreme frazzle mode this week).  This is my first attempt at the iSpy Sketches challenge.

I used a couple of new embossing folders for this.  And it was brought to my attention that I had previously mis-attributed the butterfly stamp on one of my long-ago posts.  I had attributed this butterfly stamp to Hero Arts, but after searching for someone today, I have learned that it is actually a Hampton Arts stamp set, and I had it labeled incorrectly in my stash.  So now you can actually go find it, now that you know its correct name – if you want it!  LOL. 😉

Anyhoo.  I tried to achieve all 3 colors in the butterfly by blending my Copics a bit.  I also sprayed it with a shimmer mist for a little subtle sparkle, which you can see better in the close-up photos.

Well, I’m off to sleep.  I need a TON of it right now!  I did sleep in this morning – a whopping 30 minutes – HA!  It’s tough when you have young children in the next room who are so enthusiastic about waking up every morning to get busy with their exciting lives. 😉

Thanks for stopping by today!

Retro Sketch and Play Date Cafe

I wanted to play along with that cute little Sketch #33 at Retro Sketches this week, because it made me think of my Tiny Tags stamp set, which hasn’t really been used very much since I purchased it.

I also used the Play Date Cafe #153 colors, although my colors ended up being a ‘variation’ of the originals and slightly less muted.  Grab your shades, in other words! 😉

And you know me – I can always find something to nitpick about my cards!  I think I would have liked this one more with the tags a bit closer together and with shorter string lengths.

For a second, I thought about taking it apart and trying again but then smacked myself and went on with my day – LOL!

Thanks for stopping by today. 😉

Fab Friday and Play Date Splash

It’s a Saturday morning, and I wasn’t sure what I was going to do with myself, now that my guest spot with Dynamic Duos is finished!  I’ve had my Saturday morning posts pretty much all lined up for me through September, so I had to work up something else for today. 😉

I grabbed the Play Date Cafe #152 colors (a plum color splash), and the Fab Friday #3 sketch.  I flipped this sketch to the left, also.

I wasn’t sure these colors were meant for a birthday card, but I am usually in need of a birthday card, so I went with that theme.  The great thing about my family is that I can usually find some wonderfully ‘unconventional’ soul who will appreciate my unconventional cards. 😉

The flower is another one made from coffee filters.  I love the type of bulk that can be achieved with these!  They add so much depth while still being squishable for mailing.

I used some MFT dies and a Sweet & Sassy sentiment, along with a few rhinestones and a lovely little brad.  I have no idea what brand that brad is.  It’s been sitting in my stash for so long, out of its original package, no less.  I’d like to guess Making Memories, but it really was so long ago, I hardly remember.  Sorry!

I took a bit of liberty with the banner elements from the sketch, using the Leafy Flourish die cuts in place of the top and bottom banners.

I used some DCWV shimmer cardstock for the purple touches, so it has a little bit of a subtle shine to it in those spots.

Thanks for stopping by today. 😉

Play Date Cafe 151

I finally broke out my The Sweet Life stamp set, in order to play along with the Play Date Cafe challenge this week.

I’m not an expert on these flowers, obviously.  They were a little tricky for me to line them all up for the coordinated whole, even with the ‘cheat sheet’ from the PTI forum.  I practiced and practiced first on scratch paper, but I still need lots more practice, I think.  But I don’t think they’re terrible for my first try!  And it was fun to practice with them.

I used some Fine Linen striped paper on the bottom of the card.  And I figured I would get acquainted again with my long-neglected Edgers #1 die!  Also making an appearance here are a couple of stamps from the Waltzingmouse Say It Loud stamp set.  And I took quite a bit of liberty in the color shades, I think.  Hope it’s not too much of a stretch.

Thanks for stopping by today. 😉
